Best for
- Good fit when you already produce a print PDF and want each issue online exactly as designed: page-flip spreads, a scroll mode for phones and a branded public page that collects every issue (from the Publisher plan).
- Good fit when pages should do more than print: your own videos play exactly where they sit on the page (autoplay when visible, loop and player controls as you choose), next to 3D models, clickable product variants, image slideshows and link areas. Typical examples on the vendor's site are magazines, catalogues, sales folders, real estate exposés, research papers and travel guides.
- Good fit when readers should see only your content: every plan, including the free trial, is ad-free, and the viewer shows no recommendations of other publishers' documents and uses no third-party trackers.
- Good fit when data protection is a priority: website, app, database and files run on IONOS servers in Germany (files in Frankfurt), every plan comes with a data processing agreement, and reader statistics work without cookies or stored IP addresses.
- Good fit when you want to learn how an issue is read: statistics show reading time per page, downloads, video plays, 3D interactions and link clicks (Premium and tailored plans).
- Good fit when the publication should live on your own website: the embed code takes the PDF's page format, and videos, 3D models and links keep working inside the embed (from the High Five plan).
- Good fit when you present documents: fullscreen presentation mode works with a clicker or the keyboard, and videos play inside the slides.
- Good fit when you need a single interactive document on a small budget: the Single plan costs EUR 29 per year.
- Good fit when documents are confidential: tailored plans add a secret link per recipient, a one-time code sent by email, recipient watermarks and expiry dates.
- Good fit when publications should be findable: the reading mode gives search engines and AI assistants a text version, and you decide per publication whether it may be indexed.
Limitations
- Consider another tool when your pages still need to be designed. Viewnamic starts from a finished PDF exported from your layout software and adds media on top; custom design work can be quoted separately.
- Consider another tool when you publish as a private individual. Viewnamic is offered to businesses and public bodies only.
- Consider another tool when you want to sell issues. Readers open publications for free, and Viewnamic does not describe a paywall, reader subscriptions or single-copy sales.
- Consider another tool when your readers expect a native app. Viewnamic runs in the browser; for offline reading, you can let readers download the PDF on plans that include it.
Viewnamic is a publishing platform from Paderborn, Germany. It is operated by Dreher, Weiß GbR and was founded by Felix Dreher and Daniel Weiß. You upload a PDF you already have, and Viewnamic publishes it in a browser-based viewer without converting the layout. Typography, images and page layout carry over unchanged, and the original file itself is never modified.
Readers choose how to read. They can open a publication as a page-flip magazine with double-page spreads (on the hosting and tailored plans), as a scrolling document or as a fullscreen presentation controlled with a clicker or the keyboard. Nothing has to be installed, and readers do not need an account. Every publication also has a reading mode: a structured text version on the same URL for screen readers and, if you allow indexing, for search engines and AI assistants.
The central feature is media placed directly on the page. You mark an area and add your own video files, 3D models that readers rotate and zoom, click dummies built from clickable screens, image slideshows or link areas. The media sit on top of the page in the viewer. The PDF stays small, and you can add or remove media later without exporting a new file.
Publishing works through links. Each document gets a readable address. Depending on the plan, you can also embed it on a website, list it on a branded public page that doubles as an issue archive, or share it confidentially through recipient-specific links with one-time codes. Reader statistics (Premium and tailored plans) show visits, reading time per page, downloads and media engagement, and they are collected without cookies or stored IP addresses.
The plans come in two families. Interactive PDF plans cover one or a few enriched documents, and Magazine & publication hosting plans cover growing libraries with page-flip reading. Tailored plans add team members, secure sharing and watermarks. Every plan, including the free trial, is ad-free, runs on IONOS servers in Germany and comes with a data processing agreement. The vendor names publishers, real estate companies, universities and sales teams among its users. The service is offered to business customers only.

| Ad-free reading |
On every plan DetailsThe pricing page states that all plans are ad-free and lists "No ads – ever" for every plan: the free trial, Single, High Five, Publisher, Publisher Plus, Premium and tailored plans. The privacy & security page adds that the platform uses no ads and no third-party trackers, and the privacy policy says the viewer contains no commercial ad-network cookies. |
| Accessibility |
Partial DetailsEvery publication has a reading mode: a structured text version on the same URL with headings, paragraphs and the embedded media, meant as an alternative for screen-reader users and small screens. The viewer supports touch gestures, and presentations can be navigated with the keyboard or a clicker. No WCAG conformance statement was found on viewnamic.com. |
| Interaction capabilities |
Advanced DetailsMedia sit directly on the page: videos, 3D models that readers rotate and zoom, click dummies (JPG or PNG screens with hotspots that lead to other screens, built in their own visual editor), image slideshows with optional automatic change, loop and arrows, and link areas drawn as rectangles anywhere on the page, opening in a new or the same tab. Clickable link areas are included in every plan of the pricing comparison. The Advanced level rests on the 3D models that readers rotate and zoom on the page; forms, iframes and shopping features are not described. Videos, 3D models, click dummies and slideshows count towards a media allowance: 3 in total on the trial and Single, 10 on High Five, 50 on Publisher Plus and unlimited on Premium. The Publisher plan includes no media, so its readers get link areas only (Basic level). |
| Branding | |
| Custom branding |
Yes DetailsFrom the Publisher plan, the public publication page shows your logo, a short description and a link to your website. A custom viewer with your logo, your toolbar, background and accent colours and a website link is part of Premium and tailored plans. Readers see the same branded viewer whether they open a link, an embed or the public page. |
| Customization |
Basic DetailsThe viewer designer sets your logo, the toolbar, background and accent colours and a link to your website; the pricing comparison includes this custom viewer in Premium and tailored plans. Readers can switch between magazine, scroll and presentation modes, and embeds can auto-fit or fill their container and show spreads or single pages. Custom fonts, CSS or code injection and an editor for page layouts are not described (the pages come from the uploaded PDF), so the level is Basic, also on Premium. |
| Custom domain | Unknown |
| Content and formats | |
| Video and multimedia |
Yes DetailsYour own video files (MP4, MOV, AVI, WebM, MKV) play in the area you mark on the page. They can start automatically when visible, loop, and run with or without sound and player controls. Videos are converted to MP4 in the browser before the upload. 3D models (GLB, GLTF, OBJ, STL), click dummies and image slideshows can be placed the same way. Media allowance: 3 items on the trial and Single, 10 on High Five, 50 on Publisher Plus, unlimited on Premium; the Publisher plan includes none. Audio is not described as a separate media type. |
| Embedding on own website |
Yes DetailsYou copy an iframe embed code into any HTML or embed block; the vendor names WordPress and Webflow as examples. With auto fit, the embed takes the page format of the PDF; alternatively it fills the surrounding element. Magazines show as a spread or one page at a time, and videos, 3D models and links work inside the embed. Included from High Five upwards; not listed for Single or the free trial. |
| PDF support |
Upload an existing PDF; 100 to unlimited pages per PDF depending on plan; the original file is never changed DetailsPages per PDF: 100 on the trial and Single, 200 on High Five and Publisher, unlimited on Publisher Plus and Premium. Storage: 500 MB on the trial, 1 GB on Single, 5 GB on High Five, unlimited from Publisher. Readers may download the original PDF if you allow it and the plan includes it (Single, High Five, Publisher Plus, Premium and tailored plans). A maximum file size per PDF is not stated. |
| Data and privacy | |
| Reader analytics |
Yes DetailsStatistics cover visits and views per publication, reading time per document and per page, downloads of the original PDF and media engagement (video plays, 3D interactions, click-dummy and link-area clicks). They are collected without cookies and without storing IP addresses, respect Do Not Track and are deleted after 12 months. On the standard plans, reader statistics are part of Premium; tailored plans include them too. |
| Privacy |
Hosted by IONOS in Germany (files in Frankfurt); GDPR DPA with every plan; cookieless reader statistics without stored IP addresses, deleted after 12 months DetailsWebsite, app and database run on IONOS servers in German data centres. PDFs and media are stored in IONOS Object Storage in Frankfurt am Main and delivered through time-limited links. Other services named on the privacy & security page: Brevo (EU) for emails, Stripe for payments, Cloudflare Turnstile on forms only, and Google or Microsoft only if you choose to sign in with them. Reader statistics respect Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. Backups of servers and database are made within IONOS in Germany and are not transferred to other providers; the website uses no Google Fonts, Google Analytics or other third-party analytics or advertising services (privacy policy version 1.2 and data processing agreement version 3.3, both effective 15 October 2026). |
| Hosting location |
Germany DetailsThe privacy & security page states that website, app and database run on IONOS SE servers in German data centres, and that uploaded files (PDFs, images, videos, 3D models) are kept in IONOS Object Storage in Frankfurt am Main. Reader statistics are collected by Viewnamic itself and stored in that database. The pricing page lists hosting in Germany for every plan, including the free trial. The data processing agreement (version 3.3, effective 15 October 2026) says backups stay within IONOS and are not transferred to other providers. Sub-processors outside Germany: Cloudflare (EU/USA) for Turnstile bot protection on sign-in, registration and other forms, with no CDN use. Earlier versions of the agreement and privacy policy listed Google Cloud / Google Drive (EU/USA) for off-site backups; the versions published on 15 October 2026 no longer do. |
| Access and sharing | |
| Secure sharing |
Yes DetailsAccess is set per publication: public, link only (opens for anyone with the link but is not listed on the public page) or secure. Secure sharing creates a secret link for each recipient. The document opens only after the recipient enters a one-time code sent to their email address, and a watermark and an expiry date can be added. The pricing page lists secure sharing with one-time codes and recipient watermarks for tailored plans. |
| Password protection |
Yes DetailsThe privacy & security page lists optional password protection for publications. Files are kept in private storage and opened through time-limited links. The pricing comparison does not state which plans include password protection. |
